Matlock Television Show

Matlock is an American television show with legal drama, starring Andy Griffith in the title role of attorney Ben Matlock. The show originally aired from September 23, 1986 to May 8, 1992 on NBC, then from November 5, 1992 until May 7, 1995 on ABC. Andy Griffith portrayed an attorney who wins every case he was given, even though the cases seemed impossible of being won.

The show centers on widower Ben Matlock, a renowned, folksy and popular though cantankerous defense attorney. Many of the Matlock episodes usually ended with the person who is on the stand being questioned by Matlock is the actual perpetrator.

Over the series' long run there were many changes. When the show began, Ben had a law firm called Matlock & Matlock. Ben Matlock shared his caseload with his partners – who included a relative, his younger daughter Charlene Matlock played by Linda Purl, and private investigator Tyler Hudson played by Kene Holliday, a black market whiz kid that Matlock lured away from his work.

Matlock aired a total of 195 episodes across nine seasons. 179 episodes were an hour long, and four were 2-hour episodes. There were 32 two-part episodes of the program. Below is a list of the main cast of characters:

Ben Matlock played by Andy Griffith was a prominent attorney, fond of hot dogs and wins many cases for his clients

Charlene Matlock played by Linda Purl, who was Ben's younger daughter who became a partner to her father before she moved to Philadelphia to set up her own law practice.

Tyler Hudson played by Kene Holliday, this was Ben Matlock's first private investigator

Cassie Phillips played by Kari Lizer, this was Ben Matlock's young file clerk who desired to become partner after Charlene's departure.

Michelle Thomas played by Nancy Stafford, she was a former baseball player who becomes an equal partner to Ben Matlock.

Julie March Played by Julie Sommars, She's the district attorney who becomes a good friend to Ben Matlock.

Conrad McMasters played by Clarence Gilyard, Jr., this Ben Matlock's second private investigator who is a former deputy sheriff and a rodeo rider.

Leanne MacIntyre played by Brynn Thayer, this was Ben Matlock's older daughter who works for her father after Michelle's departure.

Cliff Lewis played by Daniel Roebuck who was Ben Matlock's last partner and private investigator who graduated from law school, the son of Ben's childhood friend, Billy Lewis.

Jerri Stone played by Carol Huston, this was Ben Matlock's last assistant and private investigator with a talent for singing lullabies.

If you are a fan of watching Matlock, you probably remember watching the Andy Griffith show back in the 1960's. Baby boomers enjoyed the antics of Andy Griffith and Barney Fife. They also enjoyed the Red Skelton show.
